MEET THE ARTIST
My name is Collette (Marie) Mason and I'm the artist behind CMarie Northwest. I am a self-taught artist who believes life's a journey of learning and improving, and I strive to do that every day in my painting practice. Growing up an Army Brat I traveled the world but found roots in Washington when I moved here for college. I fell in love with the PNW’s trees, mountains, rocky coastlines, and endless opportunities for adventure. The amazing land and water-scapes are what drew me to begin my journey with watercolor and I’ve never looked back. My goal when painting is to capture the feeling that pulled my attention to the subject. Whether it’s the eerie quiet of a November morning on the water or the shimmer of light off a rock’s wet surface, I want to share my impression of the moment. For each painting I set a personal challenge or a focus; I want to represent my subject matter in a way that shares the beauty I see in the moment while continuing to improve my skills with watercolors (which sometimes have a mind of their own). Each piece starts with a small concept sketch where I work through my colors, composition and intent. Then I move on to the final piece. Hoping that once it’s complete the audience will see and feel that moment with me. |
